DreamWorks Animation in talks to sell to Japan's SoftBank

DreamWorks Animation, the studio behind the "Shrek," "Kung Fu Panda" and "Madagascar" movies, is in talks to sell the company to Japanese telecommunications firm SoftBank Corp., according to a person familiar with the talks. Jeffrey Katzenberg, chief executive of the Glendale studio, has been in discussions to sell the company he launched twenty years ago to SoftBank, which owns Sprint Corp. and recently dropped a bid to acquire T-Mobile.

SoftBank to acquire DreamWorks Animation - report

(Telecompaper) Japanese mobile operator SoftBank is in talks to acquire US-based animation studio DreamWorks Animation, The Hollywood Reporter, citing unnamed people familiar with the matter. DreamWorks Animation reported a second-quarter net loss of USD 15.4 million in July, and revenues of USD 122.3 million. DreamWorks Animation's current CEO, Jeffrey Katzenberg, would remain the head of DreamWorks Animation, should the deal occur, with the executive signing a 5-year contract to remain its CEO, Variety reports. According to the same source, SoftBank is offering USD 32 per share to acquire DreamWorks Animation, higher than the studio's stock price of USD 22.36 as of 26 September.

Softbank may consider investment in Iusacell - report

(Telecompaper) Japanese mobile telephony operator Softbank is considering to invest in Mexican mobile operator Iusacell, Bloomberg reports, citing people with knowledge of the matter. According to the report, the Japanese operator is in advanced stages of reviewing Iusacell's assets. Mexican holding Salinas Group has recently purchased a 50 percent stake in Iusacell from broadcasting group Televisa. As a result of the USD 717 million deal, Salinas Group will now fully own Iusacell, which is the country's third-largest mobile operator. The Mexican firm said that it will announce the new strategic partner once local regulatory agencies approves the acquisition of the 50 percent stake. .
