EE, Qualcomm, Huawei test LTE-A Cat 9 interoperability
2014-12-22 10:22:00| Telecompaper Headlines
(Telecompaper) Qualcomm Technologies, EE and Huawei have successfully completed interoperability testing of LTE Category 9 connectivity with 3-carrier downlink aggregation and download speeds of up to 410 Mbps. Testing was conducted using the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor with integrated LTE-A next-generation modem, and Huawei's commercial infrastructure solution, across EE's LTE-A network. Category 9 carrier aggregation allows EE to aggregate 20 MHz of 1800 MHz spectrum with another 20 MHz of 2.6 GHz, and a third carrier of 15 MHz of 2.6 GHz. This is the first LTE Cat 9 interoperability testing with major solutions providers and operators in Europe. EE's director of network services and devices, Tom Bennett, said the operator would demonstrate carrier aggregation using its remaining 15 MHz of 2.6 GHz spectrum at Wembley Stadium in early 2015.

Snapdragon 810: Can big.LITTLE keep the dream alive while Qualcomm works on Kraits successor?
2014-12-16 20:32:25| Extremetech
In the lead-up to CES 2015, Qualcomm has revealed a few more details about its upcoming Snapdragon 810 SoC -- the company's first flagship 64-bit chip, which will most likely power the top Android devices released in the first half of 2015. The Snapdragon 810 is an interesting chip for a number of reasons, but most notably it's first flagship Snapdragon S4/800 chip to not feature Qualcomm's own Krait CPU cores. Where is your own in-house 64-bit CPU core, Qualcomm?
