Brisbane's free Wi-Fi program, which has proven an inner-city hit, would be expanded to eight suburban centres under a re-elected Liberal National Party council administration. Lord Mayor Graham Quirk said the $1 million commitment would see free Wi-Fi rolled out at Stones Corner, Nundah Village, Sandgate Village, Wynnum CBD, the Hawken Drive shops at St Lucia, Beaudesert Road at Moorooka, Jackson Road at Sunnybank Hills and Boundary Street at Spring Hill.

LinkNYC, the program that plans to convert old New York City payphones into Wi-Fi hotspots with handy USB charging ports, made its official debut today. The so-called "Links" will eventually be available at 7,500 old payphones, but the retrofitted terminals are initially rolling out in beta testing across a few city blocks in Manhattan.
