TalkTalk aims to offer 1 Gbps to 60% of UK homes
2015-01-09 09:40:00| Telecompaper Headlines
(Telecompaper) UK ISP TalkTalk aims eventually to offer 1 Gbps FttP internet to 50 to 60 percent of UK homes and a huge number of business premises by focusing on its CityFibre projects for towns and cities with over 150,00 to 200,000 residents, currently being trialled in York. TalkTalk Business managing director Charles Bligh told the Huawei Broadband Forum in London that to prove the concept the joint-venture must cut the cost per connection to under GBP 500 and achieve a 30-40 percent adoption rate. Although specific addition locations have not been discussed, Bligh said, previous reports have named Coventry and Aberdeen. Technical trials will take place in the next few weeks to connect the first businesses and consumers in early 2015.
