Cathay Pacific profit up 20%; upbeat on 2015 view

Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd.'s chairman said he was upbeat on the airline's outlook for 2015 after the company posted a 20% rise in full-year net profit on lower fuel prices, strong passenger growth and a recovery in the air-cargo market. The airline said its net profit for the 12 months ended Dec. 31 rose to 3.15 billion Hong Kong dollars from HK$2.62 billion a year earlier.

Cathay Pacific Airways launched a new twice-weekly freighter service between Hong Kong and Kolkata on Wednesday, with a ceremony at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport tonight to mark the inauguration of the new route. Cathay Pacific will be the only airline offering a scheduled non-stop freighter services between Kolkata and Hong Kong.
