A passenger bus and a freight train collided at a grade crossing in northern Mexico on Friday, killing at least 16 people and injuring 22, a Mexican official said. The official said the accident occurred in the town of Anahuac, which is Tamaulipas state near the border city of Nuevo Laredo, across from Laredo, Texas.

With a new plant coming on line, more than 6,500 jobs will be created at Advanced Semiconductor Engineering's manufacturing site in Chungli, northern Taiwan, chairman Jason Chang remarked during the company's year-end banquet recently. ASE set up its manufacturing site in Chungli by acquiring a plant from Motorola in 1999.
