ExxonMobil has reached an agreement with PBF Energy, Inc. for the sale and purchase of its refinery in Torrance, California, a lubricants distribution center at Vernon, products terminals at Vernon and Atwood, and associated California pipelines and other logistics assets, including facilities at the Southwest terminal.

ExxonMobil Corp., hounded by regulatory investigations into its safety record since a February explosion tore through the company's Torrance refinery , confirmed today it has sold the crippled plant for $537.5 million to independent refiner PBF Energy. The announcement this afternoon comes a year to the day after the oil giant denied - but industry sources confirmed - that the refinery was on the block.

Environmental groups seek to appeal ExxonMobil settlement

Environmental advocacy groups have requested permission from a New Jersey Superior Court judge to appeal his approval of a $225 million pollution case settlement between the state and ExxonMobil Corp. The Philadelphia Inquirer reports the groups argue that the state disregarded its responsibility by settling for far less than the $8.9 billion sought at trial last year. An attorney representing the Sierra Club and Clean Water Action told Judge Michael Hogan on Tuesday that the groups want to ensure New Jersey and its citizens are adequately compensated for ExxonMobil's contamination of sites across the state.
