Cotton Prices on International and Domestic Markets (Weekly Report)

Cotton futures have stopped falling heavily in New York, with the nearby contract staying firm above 50 cents. The global cotton use is expected to drop sharply, however, meaning that prices should stay very depressed for months. Cotton prices may later rebound spectacularly, as already observed in the past. Our weekly cotton report covers the futures market in New York and China, and the physical indicator "A Index". Domestic cotton prices in China, India, Pakistan, and Brazil are also reviewed through a large number of tables and charts. All data are available for download.

India's textile industry is off, after the county entered complete lockdown for three weeks, until mid-April. The full supply chain is disrupted, spinning mills have shut down, with inventories kept at reasonable levels, at least. Our weekly review of Indian yarn prices covers the domestic and export markets, including carded and combed cotton, poly-cotton, poly-viscose, 100% polyester, and 100% viscose. Major yarn production centers are covered with Tirupur (Tamil Nadu), Bhiwandi (Maharashtra) and Ludhiana (Punjab). Yarn prices are compared with fiber prices, and offering the latest trends of spinners' margins.
