The Public Utilities Commission has approved a deal for the city of Las Vegas that seeks to increase the city's use of renewable energy. The Las Vegas Sun reports that the commission approved the partnership between Las Vegas and NV Energy on Wednesday that would allow the city to use renewable energy to power its streetlights, city parks and public buildings.

Energy Trends: The front page of last Sunday`s edition of the Seattle Times had an article titled Elwha: Roaring Back to Life. It`s an update on the many positive impacts to the river ecosystem after removal of the Glines Canyon and Elwha hydroelectric dams. Google the term "Seattle Times Elwha" to get the whole history. It`s rare to find such positive news in this age of the sixth extinction event ...just wanted to share. Rather than rehash what has already been said in the Times article, I`ll use this opportunity...

Tax Credit Extensions can impact renewable energy deployment.

NREL released analysis exploring potential impact of recently extended federal tax credits on the deployment of renewable generation technologies and related U.S. electric sector carbon dioxide emissions. Tax credit extensions are estimated to drive net peak increase of 48–53 gigawatts in installed renewable generation capacity in the early 2020s. Cumulative emissions reductions spanning 2016–2030 as a result of tax credit extensions are estimated to range from 540–1,400 million metric tons CO2.
