Mike Jackson , CEO of Fort Lauderdale-based AutoNation , was appointed as the deputy chair of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta's board of directors this week. As part of the board of directors, Jackson will contribute to the creation of U.S. monetary policy by sharing economic issues in the Southeast with the Federal Reserve, in addition to overseeing the management of the bank's operations and recommending changes in the discount rate.

DETROIT - The nation's top car dealer says he would give a failing grade to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for its handling of major recalls this year. "The information on their sites has been confusing," said AutoNation CEO Mike Jackson, about the recall of cars with faulty airbags.

His latest stunner came last week, when he deemed auto-dealer efforts to ban all direct sales by Tesla Motors state by state "unnecessary protectionism." In doing so, Jackson broke ranks with the vast array of auto-dealer organizations and lobbyists who have spent five years working to change state laws to require Tesla to sell its electric cars through independent third-party businesses, i.e. car dealerships.
