Aurora is an established supplier of skilled manpower to ESA and in particular at ESTEC and ESAC. Aurora has the opportunity to expand our support to ESA at ECSAT, UK. Overview The contractor will support activities during the initial phases of the end to end satellite system design and involves studies at the level of pre Phase A but does not, in principle, involve the implementation phase. The service shall be delivered by experienced satellite communications system engineer, with industrial experience in the design and development of satellite communication systems, specifically in the space segment payload, RF, optical, ground segment andor in institutionalsecure satellite communications domain. The work will be performed onsite at ECSAT within the Telecommunications Technologies, Products and Systems Department in ECSAT Harwell, UK. The contractor will work predominantly onsite at ECSAT Harwell UK. An initial training period in ESTEC, Noordwijk NL of maximum 3 months might be required. Regular travel for the purpose of supporting meetings and reviews at Industry premises and to ESTEC in particular shall be undertaken as required. The postholders tasks will include Assessment of new concepts and techniques to be applied to next generation institutional e.g. security related satellite communication systems, for both space and ground segment Monitoring and assessing the need and potential for future satellite telecommunication missions and systems in the aforementioned domain Support the initiating and managing prospective studies on new mission concepts and architectures Analysis, definition, initiation and management of industrial activities associated to new projects in the telecommunication satellite system domain Analysing and preparing proposals for new telecommunication satellite telecommunication projects, in particular in the area of institutional i.e. security related programmes, including the definition of mission requirements Definition of all the elements endtoend associated to the missionsystem architecture of new telecommunication satellite projectssystems Assessment and analysis of the best concepts and technical solutions to meet the defined mission and system requirements Assessment of the potential and benefits at system level of new techniquestechnologies. Perform tradeoffs between different conceptstechnologies to optimize the endtoend system Support activities related to system studies and Phases A of new telecommunication satellite projects Preparation of inputs to status internal reports Acquire and maintain endtoend system engineering expertise for the development of new telecommunication satellite system concepts and in new ESA ProjectsProgrammes. Specific qualification requirements A University degree or equivalent qualification in Engineering Significant demonstrated industrial experience in satellite telecommunication systems design, including substantial experience in satellite payload andor satellite telecommunication endtoend system engineering Specific experience in the area of secureinstitutional satellite communications systems, which is considered a valuable asset The successful candidate should demonstrate proven technical capabilities, resourcefulness, selfmotivation Excellent organisation and communications skills Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships Ability to document their work and to produce high quality documents Ability to work and communicate effectively in English. Knowledge of another ESA member state language is an asset. The Candidates are expected to interact with other groups in the Division, experts from TIA and TEC as well as with manufacturing industry and satellite operators and service providers. The service contractor shall participate in working groups and meetings to support the preparation of new projects. Examples are i Preparatory working groups to identifydefine new opportunities ii Exploratory meetings with potential industrial companies and with prospective partners iii Review meetings preparatory phases phase 0 and A. Legal and Security Requirements All applicants must be legally allowed to work in the United Kingdom without obtaining a VISA work permit. Applicants are required to provide a copy of their passport and degree certificate. Aurora will validate the Degree with the issuing University and provide evidence to ESA. Prior to issuing a letter of employment the applicant shall provide to Aurora a recent official document declaring that they are of good conduct from the country where currently resident. Location The work will be performed at the European Centre for Space Applications and Telecommunications ECSAT at Harwell, UK. Contract The selected candidate will receive good remuneration. Will be registered for both social security and tax in the United Kingdom. The standard working hours are 40 per week. There are 12 public holidays and an additional 30 annual days holiday.
