BIO, in reaction to transmittal of final rules for 2014/2015/2016 Renewable Fuel Standards (RFS) to White House Office of Management and Budget for review, claimed EPA will continue to undermine goals and requirements, undercut investment in advanced and cellulosic biofuels, and raise GHG emissions in transportation fuel sector. BIO's Brent Erickson specifically spoke to "EPA's new interpretation of its statutory authority to waive the requirements of RFS statute.

NAM Issues Statement on conclusion of final TPP deal.

After final round of Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) negotiations, NAM's Jay Timmons noted "The latest weak jobs report and the disappointing growth in the United States and globally" as indicators of "the urgent need" to open new markets for manufacturers. He said TPP agreement could reverse trends provided it "achieves the priorities that the NAM has fought hard for years to accomplish." Timmons cited a level playing field and competitiveness of manufacturers and their workers in USA.

Regarding recent ruling issued by PTO's Patent Trial and Appeal Board, BIO called the failure of PTO's Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) to properly assess important issues raised by said motion "disappointing." In addition to calling this ruling "cursory and erroneous," BIO said it "reinforces the immediate need for Congress and the PTO leadership to take clear and decisive action to prevent any further misuse and abuse of the Inter Partes Review process"

BIO issued statement regarding U.S. Patent and Trademark Office’s proposed changes to rules governing Patent Trial and Appeal Board inter partes review proceedings. BIO appreciates PTO’s efforts to improve IPR proceedings, but it is clear that these moderate improvements do not adequately address fundamental problems with IPR system. Proposed changes would do little to prevent continuing and growing abuse of IPR proceedings, and only reinforce need for Congressional action to fix this system.

IPC issues statement on TSCA Modernization Act of 2015.

IPC commends the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Environment and the Economy for taking action on the draft TSCA Modernization Act of 2015. IPC supports bipartisan efforts to reform the Toxic Substances Control Act of 1976, which needs to be modernized to reflect 21st century realities. A strong, cost-effective, science-based federal chemical regulatory program is important to members, their customers, and consumers, and the draft bill is a step in the right direction.
