Engineer, Satellite Telecommunications Systems Luxembourg Betzdorf Your Job The Engineer, Satellite Telecommunications Systems translates customer and business requirements into technical system concepts that are centered around or include satellites. Such concepts shall be based on solid engineering knowledge and experience Your Responsibilities Synthesize endtoend satellitecentric system designs that meet customer requirements Perform tradeoffs of different architectures according to customer requirements Act as System Designer of space and terrestrial systems as designated by management Perform due diligences, validation tests and audits on prospective and existing suppliers of space and ground assets Execute studies to pave SESs path to the business expansion and diversification as mandated in the strategic plan Maintain awareness of development of space and ground hardware in line with the companys strategic plan Provide support to innovation activities in the respective area of expertise Act as System Architect for specific projects Act as Account Holder to internal customer as required Interact with customerfacing entities as required Create engineering tools to assist in the development of the system and later utilisation Your Profile University diploma in telecommunications or related field, higher degree MSc. PHD being an asset Theoretical knowledge of satellite and associated technologies, telecommunications networks, digital signal processing and RF transmission systems. Practical experience being an asset Experience in satellite manufacturing industry is desired Sound analytical skills, innovative mind, result orientation, abstraction skills, coordination priority setting facility, problem solving, project time management, vendor and customer relation skills, diplomatic skills as well as the ability to provide practical conclusions Communication skills and ability to explain technical subjects efficiently Writing skills for technical documentation including specifications and studies Ability to interface with business line, interdisciplinary teams and to work both autonomously and in teams Diligence in taking responsibility for work packages and delivery Willingness to integrate into an international environment Fluency in English any other language being an asset We offer you A diverse workplace. Location ESOC, Darmstadt, Germany Description Head of the Ground Systems Engineering and Innovation Department, Directorate of Operations. Duties Under the Director of Operations direct authority and a member of the Directorates management team, the postholder is jointly responsible for implementing the Directorates overall strategy and related change process and is also responsible for ground systems engineering and innovation activities required to support mission operations and implement innovation. The incumbent defines the Departments strategy and is responsible for developing, managing and evolving competences, technologies and services related to ground systems and infrastructure as well as technology evolution. Additional requirements Experience in the management of complex systems for space missions would be an asset. As a general requirement for any position at managerial level within ESA, candidates are expected to have proven experience of leading, motivating and developing a team the ability to provide strategic direction to the individuals and teams within the Office and relate team objectives to the overall and evolving organisational goals and context the ability to drive performance and foster cooperation within and across teams throughout the organisation demonstrated excellent leadership, relationship management and communication skills, both oral and written a proven track record of representing the Agencys interests to external interfaces excellent cognitive, analytical, delegation, planning and organisational skills the ability to anticipate problems, solve complex issues and relate situations to their context the ability to reach solutionoriented, pragmatic and timely decisions of high standard and integrity as well as to support others team members, upper management, other stakeholders in this process. Previous experience of managing managers and multiple teams, as well as experience outside of the candidates home country and in diverse functional areas relevant to the activitties of ESA is an asset.
