ROLE DESCRIPTION SUMMARY You will be responsible for supporting the development of new satellites and system concepts based on detailed evaluation of satellite designs and associated system performances. You will contribute to the development, oversight, and innovation for RF systems incorporated in Satellite Earth Stations and on future satellite payloads this includes all antenna passive and active and associated RF hardware development. You will also optimize the overall business metrics in collaboration with relevant SES teams. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES KEY RESULT AREAS Provide specialist knowledge in the area of Electronically Steered Antenna Array development Identify and develop appropriate technologies in the RF Systems domain to support the medium to long term strategic goals of SES Responsible for several inhouse prototyping design and testing projects draft systems specifications for subsystem and integrated product developments review vendor proposals in response to formal RFPs, RFIs and support design reviews and witness and review vendor test campaigns Responsible for several handson inhouse lab based innovative RF Systems Development projects design of prototypes, assemblies and testing Support the development of breakthrough technologies such as Electronically Steered Arrays which will address gaps in the current portfolio of ground terminals and satellite payloads Monitor and foster new developments in communication technologies and signal processing that can improve the performance of data links over SESO3B satellites Contribute to the definition of new systems concepts by proposing innovative RF building block and analysing the associated system performance Work with technology suppliers to present RF technology alternatives to product development teams Stay abreast of the latest technology developments as a Subject Matter Expert to ensure SESs early adoption andor proactive reaction to such developments Synthesize endtoend satellitecentric system designs that meet customer requirements Perform tradeoffs of different architectures according to customer requirements Support meetings with external customers to assist and provide guidance in the definition of technical solutions Learn and utilize technical tools to assist in the achievement of the technical work COMPETENCIES Proactive team player with strong relationship building qualities and the ability to independently prioritise tasks and meet deadlines Strong attention to details Creative and open minded, always on the lookout for new technologies or new twists on old technologies which could create opportunities for SES Ability to analyze complex and diverse problems that could have a major impact on the organization. The guidance and control group works within the field of research and development of guidance and control systems for space applications. Our activities range from mathematical problem formulation and modelling to simulation, flight code implementation and software verification and validation in realtime environments. The GNC Systems Department is actively involved in several internal and international projects. This encompasses among others the project ReFEx Reusability Flight Experiment, the project CALLISTO an international cooperation between DLR and the space agencies JAXA Japan und CNES France, and the EU H2020 project EURISA with partners in France and Switzerland.
