Using The IDA-3106 For Rapid Systematic Detection And Geographical Localization Of RF Signals In An Unknown Environment
2015-01-29 15:50:22| rfglobalnet Home Page
This Application Note describes a method using the new IDA-3106 handheld receiver with on-board spectrum management and direction finding functions, which is particularly suitable for use by special forces during tactical operations. One application scenario is the rapid systematic detection of unwanted or unauthorized communications during field operations and their elimination through tactical countermeasures such as active jamming. Another scenario is support in combating criminal or paramilitary activities and capturing the perpetrators by tactical localization of the communications equipment used without attracting attention.

An Arctic ice caps shockingly rapid slide into sea
2015-01-24 15:00:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Washington Post: For years, scientists have documented the rapid retreat of Arctic ice, from melting glaciers in Greenland to shrinking snow cover in far northern Eurasia. Now researchers have discovered one Arctic ice cap that appears to be literally sliding into the sea. Ice is disappearing at a truly astonishing rate in Austfonna, an expanse of frozen rock far north of the Arctic Circle in Norways Svalbard island chain. Just since 2012, a portion of the ice cap covering the island has thinned by a whopping...
Rapid Draining of Greenland Lakes Signals Massive Melting, Researchers Say
2015-01-22 20:02:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Yale Environment 360: Researchers have discovered craters left behind when two lakes under the Greenland ice sheet rapidly drained recently -- an indication that a massive amount of meltwater has started overflowing the ice sheet's natural plumbing and is causing "blowouts" that drain lakes away, they say. One of the two lakes once held billions of gallons of water and emptied to form a mile-wide crater in just a few weeks, researchers report in the journal The Cryosphere. The other lake, described this week in the journal...
