" Federal health regulators have expanded approval of a cancer drug from Bristol-Myers Squibb to treat an advanced form of kidney cancer. The Food and Drug Administration says the injectable-drug, Opdivo, is approved for patients with renal cell carcinoma who have previously tried certain other drugs.

Maine Med gets grant to grow kidney tissue

Maine Medical Center's Research Institute is using a $6.8 million federal grant to learn how to grow kidney tissue using adult stem cells. The Scarborough-based Research Institute has the lead in the effort that represents the first step to creating a lab-grown kidney using the National Institutes of Health grant.
Bristol-Myers' Opdivo found effective in kidney cancer

Bristol-Myers Squibb Co said a late-stage trial of its drug, Opdivo, was stopped early after the immunotherapy was found to be effective in patients with the most common form of kidney cancer. The U.S. drugmaker said on Monday the study, Checkmate-025, was stopped early after an independent data monitoring committee concluded that Opdivo provided a survival advantage over the cancer drug, everolimus, among patients with advanced or metastatic renal cell carcinoma.
