US - Responding to concerns raised by a coalition of animal agriculture associations, the Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) granted a limited 90-day waiver delaying implementation of the required 30-minute rest break following eight hours on duty.

Transportation Rule Waived for Livestock Haulers

Source: National Pork Producers Council The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has announced that it will grant a 90-day waiver of a new hours-of-service rule for truckers hauling livestock and poultry. Official announcement of the decision was published in the Federal Register on July 11. As of July 1, the DOT’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) requires truck drivers to take a 30-minute break if more than eight hours have passed since they began service. For drivers hauling livestock, the hours of service would include time loading and unloading animals. read more

U.S. EPA seeks nominations from individuals who represent small businesses, small governments, and small not-for-profit organizations to provide input to federal panel that will explore changes to existing uses of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). Panel will focus on EPA's development of proposed rule to revise or end existing authorized uses of PCBs as appropriate if conditions under which they were authorized 30+ years ago have changed.
