Erin Cole , the military veteran who's led World Trade Center Buffalo Niagara for the past 12 months, is leaving the nonprofit trade group to take a job at Empire State Development Corp. Starting July 20, Cole will be senior vice president of Global NY, a program launched last year to assist New York businesses that want to export their goods as well as foreign businesses that want to come to New York state. WTCBN board chairman Kenneth Franasiak said a search committee has already been formed and seeks names of potential candidates by Aug. 15. On Wednesday, Cole was not immediately available for comment, but in a message posted on WTCBN's website, Franasiak said Cole will continue to live in Lockport and travel extensively.

State funds to connect farmers to schools

The New York State Health Department has awarded nearly $700,000 to help connect farmers to schools to increase the use of fresh, healthy foods in school meals while boosting the agriculture industry. It's part of a $6.7 million allocation awarded to 26 organizations statewide to increase access to healthy foods and opportunities for physical activity in high need communities.
