EB to develop prototype phones for Mexsat programme

2015-05-03 21:46:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) Elektrobit Wireless Communications and the Ministry of Mexican Communication and Transportation signed an agreement on the development of three types of Android-based L-band mobile devices: a satellite-terrestrial smartphone, a satellite-terrestrial rugged enhanced phone and a satellite rugged basic phone, for the SCT's Mexsat program. The mobile devices will be based on EB's Specialized Device Platform, a customized Android platform for public safety and cyber security markets. EB said the agreement is worth USD 21.9 million, with revenues recognized gradually in 2015 and 2016 depending on the progress of the development work. The development agreement includes delivery of a small quantity of prototypes of the three mobile devices. Assuming the work proceeds as planned, these mobile phone variants are expected to be ready for actual product deliveries from the beginning of 2017. The Mexsat programme aims to provide satellite communication services across Mexico and its seas for government offices and public safety and defense agencies.

2015-04-28 00:24:45| Electronics - Topix.net

Microsoft Corp lost a round in a potentially costly patent battle when a U.S. International Trade Commission judge on Monday found that the software giant used InterDigital Inc's technology in its mobile phones without permission. The judge, Theodore Essex, said that Microsoft infringed two wireless cellular patents owned by InterDigital, a patent licensor, and said it would not be against the public interest to ban the Microsoft devices from being imported into the United States.
