Consultancy Support on Data Processing Supporting Applications Engineering

Our German activities grow at fast pace and to face our costumers high level expectations and needs, we are looking for talented profiles having relevant experience in Space systems. The Key Person will be a member of the SEP Data Processing System Applications and Tools Group and in particular the Supporting Applications Engineering team, a multidisciplinary engineering team supporting operational and future programmes. Moreover the key person is expected to support the Operational department in the frame of maintenance and evolution of LEOGEO data and product processing systems. The Key Person shall provide engineering support to design and system engineeringreengineering activities, fully system lifecycle, in the area of the Monitoring Analysis and Reporting Multi Mission Element framework, named MME MONA, which consists in a portfolio of offline Ground Segment elements, specifically for the Long Trend Analysis, Quality Monitoring and Reporting aimed to support the operational activities of existing and future programmes. Candidate areas are programmes such as, EPS, MSG, MTG, EPSSG, JasonCS, Sentinel 3. The Key Person shall be requested to support the maintenance and evolution of off line Ground Segment elements, specifically for quality control, calibration and validation, data visualisation and auxiliary data management and services. The application software is mainly developed in CC, PERL, IDL and Python. The Key Persons duties will include a range of tasks, from the support of the day to day operation and maintenance, the analysis, design, development and testing of the facilities which also includes the handling of anomalies, upgrades and configuration changes for these facilities. The Key Person will be the focal point when it comes to integrating each individual Facility into a system context, covering all aspects from early SW development, definition of interfaces, system integration and testing, and end to end testing of the production system. Tasks will also contain the settingup and implementation of maintenance policies and procedures as well as the coordination with external providers of maintenance services. The activity is assumed, as a baseline, to require the fulltime participation of one Consultant for the duration of the contract. The tasks of the Key Person will be carried out mainly at EUMETSAT facilities in Darmstadt, but travel within Europe may be required for certain activities. Typically tasks will include Contribute to the definition, design, implementation and maintenance of architectures for data processing ground segments and their components with special emphasis on product quality control, calibration and validation, production monitoring and reporting. This task will mainly include Maintenance and evolutions of the MONA framework in all its components Configuration Management, building and distribution of software releases and patches Contribution to software system design and reengineering Support the definition, design and implementation of Climate Data Record project Support the operations of existing data processing ground segments and their maintenance and evolution. This will also include Upgrade software, including implementing and maintaining new algorithms for product quality control and calibrationvalidation activities. Perform routine tasks in operational systems under configuration control such as Support the Configuration Management process and the building and distribution of software releases and patches Support to the development, integration and configuration management of software developed by third parties, its installation, and configuration and testing Anomaly investigations, documentation and classification Follow up of the delivery of SW resolutions for any engineering change e.g. anomalies and evolutions Perform standard SW engineering activities such as SW testing in a structured approach to verify that delivered SW is fulfilling the requirements or to demonstrate that problems have been corrected. SW integration and verification in the EUMETSAT ground segments Settingup and implementation of maintenance policies and procedures Support to the procurement and installation of software, and the coordination with external providers of support services Participation in meetings and formal reviews. PROFILE Mandatory Attributes, Skills and Experience In addition to having a University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, the Key Person shall have the following mandatory attributes, skills and experienced. Relevant experience in preparation of requirements, design, interfaces and testing documentation for data processing systems considering the systems engineering aspects of data processing management and data provision experience of data processing for high data rate missions andor Earth Observation missions is an asset but is not mandatory Experience in SW design, SW development, operation, maintenance and trouble shooting of large complex realtime data processing systems for Earth Observation missions. Competence in objectoriented software design and implementation possibly in the context of satellite instrument data processing systems. Systematic approach to work, including the ability to plan the work and to cope with tight schedules and multiple tasks Ability to write accurate and consistent technical documentation. The Key Person should possess very good communication, presentation and team working skills and be able to cope with very high workloads. Moreover heshe should possess the following mandatory attitudes and attributes relevant for the development of hisher tasks Ability to learn and develop the needed skills and knowledge to contribute to the development of Data Processing applications within the Supporting Application Engineering Team. This includes the ability to rapidly absorb, and make use of, information presented in written and oral communications in a dynamic context. Willingness to work within a multidisciplinary context in cooperation with other teams. The ability to maintain a system overview is essential. Heshe shall have a systematic approach to work, be able to plan their work and to cope with tight schedules and multiple tasks. They shall have the capability to write accurate and consistent technical documentation. Desirable Skills and Experience Previous experience and knowledge in any of the following areas will be considered an additional asset CC programming language experience in a UNIXLINUX based environment Use of and application programming of database systems e.g. ORACLE, INFORMIX, PostgreSQL and MySQL Competence in the use of scripting languages e.g., shell scripting, PERL, highlevel languages e.g., Python, Java and correspondent use of their libraries. Experience with the programming and usage of IDL and Fortran Knowledge of XML and related technologies XPATH, SVG, etc. Knowledge of web technologies, programming and markup languages e.g. Apache, CGI, JavaScript, UML Competence in SW testing, unit test suite maintenance, automated testing, verification and validation Knowledge of the IBM DOORS tool or an equivalent for requirements management Knowledge of task relevant ECSS and CCSDS standards. Familiarity with data formats used for meteorological satellite products Knowledge of relevant Standards, Quality Assurance and Configuration Management principles and applications Competence in the exploitation of modern hardware and operating systems at the application level e.g. parallel programming pthreads, MPI, OpenMP The official languages of EUMETSAT are English and French. The working language for the position is English and therefore the Engineer must be able to work effectively in this language and have knowledge of the other. Client and Location For one of our main customers EUMETSAT, located in Darmstadt Germany, we are currently looking for an engineering consultant who will support the Mission Control Applications and Tools Team MCAT within the Generic Systems and Infrastructure Division. This division is in charge of engineering, maintaining and upgrading generic ground segment functions, services, infrastructure and tools in response to requirements of operational and future programmes. In particular, the MCAT is responsible for the maintenance and evolution of all Satellite and Ground Segment MC applications and tools. Tasks and Responsibilities The Consultant shall support software development and maintenance aspects of MC components and applications. The support is focused on but not limited to the elements that are designed with an objectoriented approach and following a clientserver architectural organization. The development cycle includes the typical phases requirements, design, development, testing with formal procedures related to configuration control, verification against the software requirements and rollout into operations. Development ranges in a mixed multiplatform environment, from fixing problems and engineering changes, technical support to the continuous operation of the system, including analysis, investigation and resolution with the creation of appropriate documentation. Software, Technologies and Engineering skills Experience developing interacting middleware components and applications using TCPIP and CORBA Experience with scripting languages e.g. Python, PHP, Unix Shell scripts, etc... Experience developing software components and applications making use of Web Applications technologies client and server side Tomcat, JavaScript, HTML5 Knowledge of OpenVMS platform. Due to the variety of the tasks and the scope of the systems to be supported, the Consultant shall be able to quickly adapt to changes in assignments, manage his tasks in an efficient way demonstrating high degree of independence and autonomy, excellent analytical skills, effectiveness within a small team, good presentation and communication skills. The Consultant shall be able to conduct all activities in an orderly and disciplined manner, encouraging a friendly and cooperative working environment, demonstrating capabilities in applying principles, accept criticism and being open to discussing and share solutions with other. Moreover is expected to actively participate, as required by the Team Leader, in technical meetings andor periodic reviews and activity assessments.
