Data Processing Systems and Applications Engineers We are looking to further enhance our team by adding three 3 Data Processing Systems and Applications Engineers You will be based initially for 2 years at our clients headquarters in Darmstadt, Germany. Extension of a further 2 years may be possible. In this large European Agency you will find an excellent and modern working environment with challenging tasks and responsibilities. Your Tasks Include The core task of each of the 3 engineers, as members of the Processing Applications Engineering PAE Team within the SEP DPSA CA, shall be to support the maintenance and evolution of the facilities and systems in one of the following areas Support to EPS level 0 and MSG level 0, 1 1.5 data processing EPS FEP PGF and MSG IMPF IDRS, and SARAL mission Ground Segment Support to EPS level 1 2 and MSG level 2 data processing EPS PPFs and MSG MPEF Support to JASON Ground Segments. The Key Persons may also be assigned to support tasks in any of the other two areas or in any other tasks under the responsibility of the team. The Key Persons duties will include a range of tasks, from the support of the daytoday operations and maintenance, to the handling of anomalies, upgrades and configuration changes for these facilities. Tasks will also contain the settingup and implementation of maintenance policies and procedures. For procurements and maintenance services provided externally, the Key Person shall provide support to the management of the technical interface with the external contractors. Besides the above described routine tasks, the Key Persons will also be expected to contribute to requirements specification, design and system engineeringreengineering, development and testing activities in the field of science data processing that will become necessary for existing and future production systems. In support to operations, the Key Persons may also be required to provide on call support during special activities for limited periods of time e.g. short periods during spacecraft commissioninglaunch phases as part of a team of maintenance engineers. The tasks will include Maintenance and development of the Data Processing SystemsApplication Software it should be noted that for many of the facilities the first line maintenance is being performed by our Client in conjunction with MOLTEKs engineering support the second line maintenance is being performed by the MOLTEK Engineers under supervision and with support from our Client Support to procurement activities for maintenance and evolution activities, such as specification and maintenance of requirements for new or enhanced Data Processing SystemsApplications Software components that are going to be implemented by external contractors monitor their detailed design and implementation generate the test plans, test specificationprocedures, perform the acceptance of the externally developed components, support the integration testing in the ground segment and the operational validation Contribute to the definition and design of architectures of data processing ground segments and their components, their interfaces, and the validation and verification methods Coordinationinputs to planning and preparation of releases Coordination with other Client Teams andor contractor to prepare introduction of newupgraded components Generation and maintenance of technical baseline documentation Support the operations of existing data processing ground segments Participation in technical meetings and formal reviews Analysis of the maintenance requirements and identification, procurement or implementation of the tools required to fulfill them Settingup and implementation of maintenance policies and procedures Perform routine tasks in operational systems under configuration control such as Anomaly investigations, documentation and classification Participation in relevant Anomaly Review Boards Follow up of the delivery of SW resolutions for these anomalies Support to Configuration Management change control practices Support to building and distribution of application software releases and patches Verification of correct facility installation for the assigned facilities Support to the development, integration and configuration management of software developed by third parties, its installation, and configuration and testing Perform SW testing in a structured approach to verify that delivered SW is fulfilling the requirements or to demonstrate that problems have been corrected Your Profile Behavioural Skills The Key Persons should possess very good communication, presentation and team working skills and be able to cope with very high workloads. Moreover they should possess the following mandatory attitudes and attributes relevant for the development of their tasks Ability to learn and develop new skills and knowledge. This includes the ability to rapidly absorb, and make use of, information presented in written and oral communications in a dynamic context. Capable and willing to work within a multidisciplinary context in cooperation with other teams. The ability to maintain a system overview is essential. They shall have a systematic approach to work, be able to plan their work and to cope with tight schedules and multiple tasks. They shall have the capability to write accurate and consistent technical documentation. The ability to manage the technical interface with external partnerscontractors, based on a solid system engineering understanding. Mandatory Skills and Experience The Key Persons shall have the following mandatory attributes, skills and significant and relevant experience in Engineering of large, UNIX or LINUX based, complex, realtime data processing systems, including requirements specification, design, software maintenance or development, formal software testing and system integration Very good technical writing skills, in particular in the area of formal technical documentation e.g. requirements specification and design documentation, test plans and procedures, maintenance procedures CC programming Configuration management processes and applications Scripting languages e.g. PERL, shell Software build environments and tools e.g. IBM XL C and GCC compilers, make, automake, autoconf, RPM Source code control systems e.g. Subversion, Git Software anomalies analysis, debugging, profiling, fixing and processing Desirable Skills and Experience Practical knowledge and experience of as many as possible of the following areas will be an advantage Operating systems and application software upgrades andor porting to new platforms Distributed computing and parallel processing e.g. MPI, OpenMP, pthreads Objectoriented software design, implementation, and maintenance, including the use of UMLSysML based tools for supportingdocumenting the design, at least at the architectural level Web technologies and programming e.g. Apache, CGI, JavaScript, XML User interface design and programming Other programming languages e.g. Java Socket programming e.g. BSD sockets The official languages are English and French. The working language for the position is English and therefore the consultants must be able to work effectively in this language.
