Mobile enterprise management tools are targeted by spyphones, researchers warn
2013-03-14 18:55:21| InfoWorld: Top News
Enterprises that use MDM (mobile device management) systems to protect their corporate data on employees' mobile phones are not safe from attacks from spyphones, researchers warned at BlackHat Europe on Thursday. Over the next five years, 65 percent of enterprises will adopt an MDM system for corporate users, technology research company Gartner predicted last October. Companies will use the systems to manage network traffic and corporate data on smartphones and tablets, which nowadays are often owned by employees and used for both private and corporate tasks.

Researchers resurrect and improve CRIME attack against SSL
2013-03-14 13:03:07| InfoWorld: Top News
Two researchers from security firm Imperva have devised new techniques that could allow attackers to extract sensitive information from users' encrypted Web traffic. The new methods build on those used in an attack called CRIME (Compression Ratio Info-leak Made Easy) revealed last year that abuses the compression feature of SSL to achieve the same goal.

Java's security problems unlikely to be resolved soon, researchers say
2013-03-14 11:00:00| InfoWorld: Top News
Since the start of the year, hackers have been exploiting vulnerabilities in Java to carry out a string of attacks against companies including Microsoft, Apple, Facebook, and Twitter, as well as home users. Oracle has made an effort to respond faster to the threats and to strengthen its Java software, but security experts say the attacks are unlikely to let up any time soon.

Researchers create first room-temperature, nanoscale lasers: A major step towards optical computers
2013-03-13 17:30:53| Extremetech
Nanophotonics researchers at Arizona State University have created the world's first electrically powered room-temperature nanolasers. These lasers are the single most important step towards building computer chips that use light instead of electricity for ultra-fast and efficient on- and off-chip communications.
