A group of businesses and property owners is proposing a short line rail loop to move Cedar Grove compost off Everett's Smith Island to markets outside western Washington. A plan submitted to the city calls for a 61-acre railroad terminal with a 1.8 mile-long loop track connected to the Burlington Northern Santa Fe mainline.

Standard will cover activated carbons that are used for treatment of drinking water as well as those used to produce consumer products or treat wastewater. Proposed standard WK47421 will describe how laser light scattering technique can determine particle size distribution of fine mesh activated carbon.

Proposed ASTM standard WK31234, Specification for Biodegradable, Low Aquatic Toxicity Hydraulic Fluids, intends to make it easier to ensure that proper hydraulic fluids are being used at environmentally sensitive job sites. Biodegradable fluids have been found to perform differently than traditional mineral oils, creating a need for separate performance classifications. Fluids to be covered by ASTM WK31234 are used in industrial/mobile hydraulic applications.
