Cal Val Scientist Ion Radiative Transfer Simulation

For our activities in CNR ISAC, we are currently looking for a Cal Val Scientist ion Radiative Transfer Simulation on a fixed term contract with a duration until 31122016. Main responsibilities Tasks and Responsibilities As Cal Val Scientist you will perform the following activities, under the direction and guidelines of the Cal Val Task Manager scientific review on radiation budget studies selection of specific test cases for ATSR like instruments setup and operation of radiative transfer models RTM evaluation of potential instrumental issues on radiation budget evaluations participation to conferencesymposia production of scientific publication. Inputs to these activities, for which awareness is required scientific literature on the topic RTM models CNR AATSR12 data structure and contents. Ideal candidate Requirements You should have a high level of selfmotivation, the capability to work effectively in a team and autonomously, and excellent organisation skills. A strong proactive attitude is required in identifying problems and proposing solutions. Furthermore a generic background on Earth atmospheric science is required. Mandatory knowledge and experience requisites are Good knowledge of passive infrared remote sensing of the atmosphere Experience in development of radiative transfer models RTM limb, nadir. This includes Experience in SW development, in particular for the analysis of RTM output Experience in setup and run of RTM both prototype and stateoftheart model as e.g. MODTRAN and RTTOV Documented capability to support with radiative transfer modelling the development of an algorithm to retrieve Total Column Water Vapour from ATSR like instruments. Development of tools for analysis of large set of data and data visualization IDL Experience with Earth Observation Satellite missions, and in particular ESAs AATSR12 data structure and contents. Mandatory skills and attributes Proactive approach to activity controlling and tracking Capability to work in a very ordered and structured way Capability to produce high quality scientific documentation reports, based on external inputs Very good English and technical documents writing Be hosted in Bologna. In addition, you should have Attitude to follow guidelines and to require minimum supervision, proactively requesting help when needed Ability to plan and report and to work to deadline Availability to travel within Europe to attend meetings. Additional assets Experience in Matlab or Python SW languages Experience with Earth Observation Satellite missions with additional optical sensors.
