A vacancy has arisen for a Propulsion Test Engineer with Astrium in Stevenage. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing testing and launch support of satellite propulsion systems and components, from preparation of equipment and documentation, through to testing and recording of data. You will support the satellite fuelling at the launch facility, and maintain the technical and safety requirements for all activities during testing and fuelling The successful candidate will be subject to security clearance in order to undertake related work in accordance with business needs. The key responsibilities of the role are as follows Preparation of test and launch documentation within the requirements of the Satellite Propulsion system including technical and safety Working as part of a small, specialist team within a multidisciplined project team. Manufacture, maintain and operate equipment specific to the requirements of the propulsion system. Perform test and launch services activities to strict quality and technical requirements through to testing and recording of data. Frequent and occasionally extended periods of offsite work required. Ability to deliver multiple tasks to set time frames Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written at all levels The successful candidate will demonstrate the following skills and experience Engineering based HNCHND or time served engineering apprenticeship plus relevant experience A good knowledge and understanding of mechanical and pneumatic systems, gases and some basic electrical engineering skills Experience of high value, high precision engineering, ideally with experience in the aerospace industry Demonstrated PC literacy with a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and PC based applications Must be prepared to travel abroad occasionally for extended periods 46 weeks continuously. A good team player Proactive and positive attitude Methodical and selfmotivated with an eye for detail An enthusiastic and committed individual with demonstrated experience of working under pressure to tight schedule requirements. DUTIES Under the responsibility of the Propulsion Manager of the Future Launchers Preparatory Programme FLPP, the Propulsion Engineer will be responsible for the day to day management of tasks related to propulsion activities, such as drafting the statements of work related to the FLPP Programme propulsion activities, with the internal support and technical assistance supporting contract department in the bidding process, and organising the proposal evaluation supporting, as needed, negotiations with Industry of the contracts relevant to its activity follow up of all relevant activities, including deliverables assessment, with reporting to Propulsion Manager supporting the propulsion technology activities, especially for the development of the synergies between propulsion technology activities and the Propulsion Demonstrators supporting the reference documents elaboration such as work plan, Procurement Proposals and Programme Proposal relevant to its activity ensuring appropriate support to the Propulsion Manager, the postholder will report to. The Propulsion Engineer will be assisted by a team of engineers and project control staff and supported by engineers from the Directorate of Technical and Quality Management DTEC, and from National Organisations within the FLPP Technical Assistance scheme. QUALIFICATIONS Applicants should have a university degree or equivalent qualification in relevant engineering field together with a technical background of liquid and solid propulsion, gained in the management of industrial projects as well as a good knowledge of the European space transportation industry. Organisational skills, team spirit and ability to work in an international environment are assets. The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these two languages is required together with a working knowledge of the other language. Knowledge of another member state language is an asset.
