Support and development of the verification infrastructure development andor procurement of scripts tools to perform installation checks, nonregression, functional and performance testing. Analysis and implementation of mechanisms or tools allowing the automatic or semiautomatic verification testing of the application software. Coordination of the production of new software releases or patches, delivery acceptance and installation onsite. This activity includes the technical coordination of the production by an external contractor of new releases or patches of the application software, liaison with the EUMETSAT operational users, participation in technical reviews, participation in factory at contractor premises acceptance testing campaigns and coordination of the installation of the releases or patches onsite at EUMETSAT. Execution and coordination of software verification and nonregression testing campaigns. This activity includes preparation of test data, running the test procedures on the target system, generation of test reports, analysis of results and troubleshooting of problems. Software support software support to the endusers of the application software. Ensure operations continuity by provision of oncall services and software support to operations. Documentation generation and updates of technical documents. Technical point of contact for maintenance contractors acting as point of contact with the contractor for technical discussions, review of technical documentation from the contractor, organizing periodical technical meetings with the contractor. Support to new Missions PhaseB activities Requirements engineering Participation in the functional analysis and decomposition of the Ground Segment requirements in the domain of Mission Planning System. Support the definition of Ground Segment requirements in the area of the Mission Planning System. Participation in workshops and review meetings. Interfacing with Operations to consolidate the operational concept in the Mission Planning System requirements. Support the identification of the verification method and initial test cases for the Mission Planning System requirements. Incorporate the reuse of the EUMETSAT Mission Planning System kernel products in the Ground Segment requirements. Interfacing with the Mission Planning System kernel product experts in the MCA Team to coordinate their contributions to the requirements definition. System Architectural design Support the generation of the architectural system level design of the Mission Planning System as part of the Ground Segment. Support the production of design models using Systems Engineering and CASE tools. Support the definition and documentation of all interfaces IRDsICDs between the elements of the Mission Planning System and other Ground Segment or external elements. Incorporate the reuse of the EUMETSAT Mission Planning System kernel products in the Ground Segment design. Support to new Missions PhaseCD activities Support to Mission Planning System implementation Support to the requirement and design engineering activities as part of the applications development. Participation and contribution in requirements, design and implementation reviews both internal and with external contractors. Follow the software development by external contractors of the Mission Planning System. Support to IVV and Acceptance Participation in verification readiness reviews and verification testing campaigns both internal and with external contractors. Technical coordination of the parallel activities involving the EUMETSAT Mission Planning Systems for LEO missions Support to the technical coordination of all the activities in the team where the EUMETSAT LEO Mission Planning Systems are involved. These activities comprise at the moment the maintenance and evolution for missions under routine operations, reengineering activities and the reuse of the EUMETSAT Mission Planning System in new Programmes. PROFILE In addition to having a University degree in a relevant engineering discipline, the key person shall demonstrate significant knowledge and experience in the area of specification, design, implementation, verification and maintenance of Mission Planning Systems. The key person shall have skills and experience in the following mandatory areas 1. Domain Skills Experience minimum 5 years in the definition of software requirements, architectural design, implementation and maintenance of Mission Planning Systems in the context of Low Earth Orbit LEO space missions. 2. Software Development, Verification Maintenance Skills Experience minimum 5 years in the full cycle of development and maintenance of application software, preferably for Mission Planning Systems, following formal software engineering processes. This includes user and system requirement analysis, software requirement engineering, software design, implementation, corrective and evolutive maintenance activities. Experience minimum 3 years in IVV integration, verification and validation activities, preferably for Mission Planning Systems, following formal engineering processes. This includes requirement verification, system and subsystem integration, generation of test plan and test procedures, nonregression testing, generation of test data, generation of test tools, running the test procedures on the target system, generation of test reports and anomaly tracking. 3. Software Engineering Skills Experience minimum 3 years in designing and developing software applications using C and Java programming languages for UNIXLinux operating systems. Experience minimum 3 years in designing and developing software applications using interfaces to relational database management systems RDBMS and experience with data model design for RDBMS. Experience minimum 3 years in designing and developing software applications using JBoss Drools as business rule management system. In more detail, all necessary support activities will be provided in particular phases of the EUMETSAT systems life cycle, consisting of Phase B Support in refinement, management and maintenance of the GS system requirements in its Ground Segment Requirements Document, including analysis of the system level requirements, requirements tracing and justification Support in refinement and maintenance of the ground segment functional, operational and data model Support in defining the Ground Segment architecture addressing the overall design of the ground segment system and its physical elements, including the GS deployment views, and generation of the associated architectural design documentation Performing analyses architectural tradeoffs, technical budgets, design to costeffort and risk analyses to ensure completeness and coherence of the design for all aspects related to system engineering, and contribute to the GS design justification and GS Technical Budgets documents Support in the decomposition of the GS System into procurementdevelopment elements, COTS and reusable components including allocation of requirements and functions from GS system level. Contribution to the element level requirements, especially requirements common to all elements and recommended technologies Support in defining the GS external interfaces, and internal interfaces between the different GS elements, and their documentation in ICDs Support in generating IVV related concepts and documents, including preliminary integration and verification plans and verification control documents VCDs Support in preparation of the documentation for the GS Preliminary Design Review PDR and the review itself, as part of the ground segment project team, i.e., providing answers to and supporting the resolution of issues raised. Phase C Support in completion detailed design of GS components, including analyses architectural tradeoffs, system technical budgets, risk analyses to ensure completeness and coherence of the design for all aspects related to system engineering Support in management and maintenance of the requirements baseline and defining MME Services, on the basis of capabilities needed by the Programmes GS Support in closure of actions raised at the GS PDR and other check points which might be identified in the detailed design phase Support in defining requirements and interfaces for the components of the GS Support to studies internal or external and the evaluation of their results, and relate engineering proposals for the ground segment detailed design, Support in preparation of the ground segment system and constituent parts assembly, integration and verification detailed planning. Phase D Analysis of deliverables for conformance to existing requirements and specified test procedures, Support of the integration, verification, and validation IVV of the Ground Segment elements into the overall Ground Segment system, Support in following up on all segment level development and testing activities and status, and participating in meetings and reviews as necessary. This is a fulltime position with a planned starting date on 01. January 2017. You will be nominally based at EUMETSATs facilities in Darmstadt, Germany, but shall be in a position to travel within Europe or worldwide, if required. Furthermore you shall be able to attend reviews and progress meetings outside of EUMETSAT premises on a short notice. Qualifications Competencies Applicants shall have an university degree, in the domain of engineering, science, or other suitable qualification and be able to demonstrate 5 years of experience in the following areas and disciplines Essential skills are Extensive experience in the specification, design including functional analysis and modelling, implementation, integration, and verification of large and complex Earth Observation ground segments Experience in the preparation of ground segment requirements and design documentation Experience in management and traceability of complex requirements structure, and preferably experience with DOORS Experience in use of modelling and design tools in support of architectural design activities preferably CORE, or Enterprise Architect Detailed knowledge of at least 3 of the following and a good overview of the other systems and related technologies i Near RealTime Data Processing chains, ii Ground segment endtoend monitoring system, iii Data Archive and Retrievals, iv Data Distribution, v IVV, Excellent oral and written communication in English The following experience would be an additional asset Experience in Networking and Communications and Ground Stations subsystems Experience in system engineering formal practices and processes, especially in the field of space systems engineering, including knowledge of ECSS standards and system life cycle processes You shall be able to fulfil the assigned tasks with a minimum of supervision, have a systematic approach to work, be able to plan your work and cope with tight schedules and multiple tasks. You shall have the capability to write accurate and consistent technical documentation. Good communication skills verbal and written are important. You shall be willing to work in a team of engineers and in cooperation with industry and partner agencies.
