There was 'water water everywhere' in rainy Limerick, but not a drop to drink, as thousands traveled from across the mid-west to show their opposition to the water charges. Despite fears the downpours would wash-out the protest, around 4,000 still turned out in a sea of umbrellas, about two thousand less than last weekends showing here.

Microsoft's Kinect motion controller may have been intended to keep gamers moving while in the throes of play, but some intrepid explorers have been using it for a different purpose: hunting ghosts. Its skeletal-tracking and infrared-sensing capabilities let Kinect can "see" as many as six players in a room. What makes spines start to tingle, however, is when it sees some who aren't there.

No this is not about Halloween spirits, although it could be Trick or Treat. Alcoholic spirits have been with us since the first distillers figured out another use for corn, rye and other grains besides cornbread and rye bread.
