KDDI, Samsung demo network slicing in 5G standalone network

(Telecompaper) Japanese operator KDDI, in cooperation with Samsung, has demonstrated network slicing in a 5G standalone network (5G SA). KDDI says this is "the world's first successful demonstration of the generation of end-to-end network slicing where the RIC defined by the O-RAN Alliance is used to control network slicing".

KDDI, Okinawa Cellular launch 'au 5G' service in Japan

(Telecompaper) Japanese operators KDDI and Okinawa Cellular will launch their 'au 5G' service in some areas of 15 prefectures. The au 5G service is expected to expand to all major cities across Japan starting from summer this year. KDDI and Okinawa plans to expand the au 5G service to 10,000 stations by March 2021, and to more than 20,000 stations by March 2022.

AWS unveils AWS Wavelength for 5G edge computing, new partnerships with Verizon, Vodafone, KDDI, SK Telecom

(Telecompaper) Amazon Web Services (AWS) made some new announcements at its AWS re:Invent event, first unveiling AWS Wavelength, a system that uses 5G compute and storage at the edge to deliver millisecond latencies. New partnerships with Verizon, Vodafone, KDDI and SK Telecom aim to make the edge service available in the US, Europe, Japan and Korea.
