Air New Zealand has signed a conditional agreement to sell its Blenheim-based maintenance subsidiary Safe Air to the Australian arm of European aviation giant Airbus. The company cancelled a contract it held with L-3 Communications to carry out work on the air force C-130 Hercules fleet.

Reuters: Chilean authorities declared an environmental emergency for the Santiago metropolitan region for Monday, forcing more than 900 industries to temporarily shut down and about 40 percent of the capital's 1.7 million cars off the roads. "We're currently facing unusual conditions, with one of the driest Junes in over 40 years as well as really bad air circulation conditions in the Santiago valley in recent days, which boosts the concentration of contamination," the Environment Ministry said in a statement....

Air New Zealand's earnings are poised to come under significant pressure as a result of Qantas Airways' strategy of launching regional Jetstar flights in New Zealand and threatening to enter the monopoly New Zealand-mainland North America market in partnership with American Airlines, analysts say. A Credit Suisse analysis has revealed Kiwi passengers in economy class are paying on average 38 per cent more per kilometre on non-stop flights between New Zealand the mainland US compared with what Australian passengers on Qantas pay per kilometre on the longer flights between Sydney and Melbourne and Los Angeles.
