IPCC report: Britain could cool if Gulf Stream slows
2013-09-27 16:00:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Telegraph: For the first time, the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is due to give a clear prediction of how global warming will affect currents in the Atlantic Ocean. It will say that the circulation of warm and cold water in the Atlantic, which includes the Gulf Stream, will weaken by 20 to 44 per cent by the end of the century. Scientists claim that such a slow-down in the Gulf Stream will have a big impact on Britain, causing cooling of about 1.8F (1C) and disrupting weather patterns....

What effect will the IPCC report have on UN climate negotiations?

RTCC: After the hype in Stockholm comes the sober reality. The worlds leaders now have a wealth of information on the causes and likely consequences of climate change from the latest IPCC analysis - but what will they do about it? Governments will meet in Warsaw from 11-22 November to develop a framework for a global emissions reduction deal. This is scheduled to be signed off in Paris in 2015, but few seem confident it will be enough. The UKs former climate change envoy John Ashton identified...

Climate Projections More Confident, Dire From IPCC
2013-09-27 16:00:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Climate Central: Manmade global warming is rapidly transforming the planet at rates that are unprecedented in human history, from melting Arctic sea ice to heating the land and seas and contributing to extreme weather events, concluded a new landmark climate report from the United Nations on Friday. The study, the fifth major assessment from the U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), projects a bleak future of rising sea levels, more intense and frequent heat waves, destructive droughts and floods,...

IPCC Report Another Wake Up Call for Immediate Climate Action
2013-09-27 15:52:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
EcoWatch: The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has released its latest assessment of what science is telling us about the state of our planet. Researchers are more certain than ever before that humans are causing climate change and that some of its most dangerous impacts are accelerating faster than expected. Many Americans already know this to be true. We have seen our own communities pummeled by more intense and more frequent heat waves, droughts and storms. But even as we witness one...
IPCC Scientists Warn of Upper Limit on CO2 Emissions
2013-09-27 15:31:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Yale Environment 360: Saying it is 95 percent certain that humans have caused most of the global warming of the last half-century, scientists with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) warned today that the world can afford to burn about 1 trillion more tons of carbon before facing extreme climate change. The IPCCs working group on the physical sciences for the first time set an upper limit on CO2 emissions, contending that humanity can combust only one-third of the 3 trillion tons of fossil fuels that...
