Irish airline and takeover target Aer Lingus sank into a net loss in 2014 on the back of one-off pension and staff restructuring costs, it said Tuesday. Losses after taxation stood at 95.8 million euros last year, the carrier revealed in a results statement.

Harman dives into the 'Internet of things'

Harman Industries International is spending nearly $1 billion for two companies, adding systems that speed the development of an "Internet of things" in which people can control a wide range of devices as well as software to allow wireless updates. Stamford-based Harman is paying $780 million for Symphony Teleca, a Mountain View, Calif.-based company with 8,000 employees, and $170 million for Israel-based Red Bend Software.

Herald: Investments in renewable energy rose to record levels globally in 2014 but fell sharply in Australia because of uncertainty triggered by the Abbott government's review of the industry, Bloomberg New Energy Finance said.
