Federal officials said Friday that a guardrail system found on many U.S. highways met safety standards in crash tests that followed accusations they have speared cars. Forty states have stopped installing the guardrails, and Trinity Industries Inc. stopped shipping them after a Texas jury found in October that the company had failed to tell regulators about design changes made in 2005.

The crash of an overturned tanker truck has closed NW Cornelius Pass Road between US Highway 30 and NW Skyline Blvd., at about 11:45 a.m. Friday. A trailer being towed by a truck turned over and spilled what appears to be raw sewage. Response agencies are on site. No injuries are reported. The road is expected to be closed for several hours.
