Hydrologist discusses impact of climate change on Utah's water supply

2016-03-27 06:01:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed

Fox: A new report released by the U.S. Department of the Interior says climate change is a growing risk to western water management. Most of Utahs water resources come from snowmelt, but, as Fox 13 News Max Roth shows us, snowmelt run-off is becoming less predictable. I think its hard to realize for most of us that live down here that water really is a limiting resource, said Paul Brooks, a hydrologist and professor in the University of Utahs department of Geology and Geophysics. His class...

Climate change impact on food will go beyond production

2016-03-11 14:12:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed

Reuters: A study launched last week in the Lancet has found that as many as 529,000 people may die as a result of changes in diet, weight, and health due to climate change impacts on food production. This study is further evidence that the impacts of climate change are real, they are dire, and the need to act is urgent. Much of the research on climate change and agriculture to date has examined the impacts of climate change on food production: how much food will be available. What has not been adequately...

Impact of Climate Change on Food Production Could Cause over 500,000 Extra Deaths in 2050

2016-03-04 13:00:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed

Blue and Green: Climate change could kill more than 500,000 adults in 2050 worldwide due to changes in diets and bodyweight from reduced crop productivity, according to new estimates from the Oxford Martin Future of Food Programme. The research, published today in The Lancet, is the strongest evidence yet that climate change could have damaging consequences for food production and health worldwide. The modelling study, led by Dr Marco Springmann from the Oxford Martin Programme on the Future of Food at the University...

Climate impact predicted to cause 500,000 extra deaths in 2050

2016-03-03 14:07:47| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed

Reuters: Climate change could cause significant changes to global diets, leading to more than half a million extra deaths in 2050 from illnesses such as stroke, cancer and heart disease, experts said on Wednesday. As extreme weather such as floods and heat waves wreaks havoc with harvests and crop yields, estimated increases in food availability could be cut by a third by 2050, according to the experts' study published in The Lancet medical journal. This would lead to a reduction of 99 calories available...
