No patch yet for zero day in Symantec Endpoint Protection software driver

A zero-day flaw in a software driver in Symantec's widely used Endpoint Protection product may be tricky to fix. The flaw is contained in the Application and Device Control driver, which is in Endpoint Protection versions 11.x and 12.x, the security company wrote in an advisory on Wednesday.

Symantec has acquired NitroDesk, which makes security and management applications for mobile devices. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Symantec was already partnering with NitroDesk and offered its TouchDown application as part of its App Center, which is Symantec's mobile application management and security product.

Symantec fires CEO, appoints interim replacement

Symantec fired its second CEO in less than two years on Thursday, dismissing Steve Bennett and putting a board member in charge while the security vendor searches for a permanent replacement. Bennett took the reins from former president and CEO Enrique Salem in July 2012 after Salem was dismissed amid weak financial results. Bennett has also resigned from Symantec's board, according to a press release.

Symantec to shut down Backup Exec.cloud

Symantec plans to close down its Backup Exec.cloud service, saying it lacks mobile and content-sharing features and wouldn't be the right platform for delivering them. Backup Exec.cloud is a pure cloud-based offering designed to make it easy for small businesses and remote branch offices to back up their data. It was announced in February 2012.
