For our location in Darmstadt Germany we are looking for Flight Dynamics Engineers fm to strengthen our existing team and support our client at ESOC . Working in Flight Dynamics at ESOC is one of the most technically challenging and exciting activities, as well as immensely rewarding and intellectually stimulating. Tasks The successful candidates will initially work in the areas of Earth Observation Mission Support as well as Test and Validation Support. The detailed planning depends on the evolution of the different mission schedules. The engineers will support the flight dynamics operations in the following activities Prelaunch Development Studies for the operational FD software Mission Planning Support Orbit Determination Trajectory Optimisation ACS Command Generation ACS Calibration Auxiliary Data and Experimenters Support Operational Support Studies and Mission Analysis Critical Mission Planning Support Orbit Determination Trajectory Optimisation Routine Mission Planning Support AOCS Command Generation Actuators and Control Systems Calibration Attitude Determination and OB Systems Monitoring and Verification Optical Sensors Calibration Auxiliary Data Generation Test, Simulations and Training Evaluation and Reporting Essential Requirements University degree with high grades in engineering, mathematics, physics or equivalent Sound knowledge of Flight Dynamics, orbit and attitude dynamics Good understanding of celestial mechanics, spacecraft flight dynamics and sw programming Experience with Flight Dynamics software tools and procedures Experience with SUNSolaris, FORTRAN, C, MATLAB and UNIX operating system Desirable Skills Familiarity with Flight Dynamics operations operational experience would be an advantage. Additional Information Fluency in English is mandatory Oncall support will be necessary The candidate must have a valid German work and residence permit or be an EU Citizen Start date is November 2014

SPACE FLIGHT DYNAMICS CONSULTANTS mf The Challenge We currently seek to recruit up to three flight dynamics consultants to support a range of European Space Agency earth observation missions. Some of these missions are presently in development, others are already in operation. The tasks will include Mission planning, orbit and attitude manoeuvre preparation and analysis, orbit determination and propagation, trajectory optimisation, actuator and sensor calibration, database maintenance, attitude and orbit control telemetry monitoring, attitude determination, product generation, test and validation of operational products, support for simulation campaigns Approach, orbit insertion and lander delivery, forcefield measurement, landing site selection and lander delivery Early conceptual design studies for the operational flight dynamics system, operations preparation and planning, manoeuvre product generation, support for principle investigators Flight dynamics software maintenance Adaptation of algorithms to new and exotic space environments, adaptation to new interfaces and functional requirements, migration to new hardware andor operating systems. Typical software elements are developed in FORTRAN, C, Mathematica, Matlab, awk, sed, python, perl These are fulltime positions with a planned starting date possibly as early as August September 2014. Your Qualifications Applicants should have a superior university degree, preferably in astrophysics, mathematics, space engineering or a closely related discipline and some experience developingmaintaining scientific application software. Previous experience in space flight dynamics is desirable, but we also welcome applications from recent university graduates. Essential skills are Practical and rigorous approach to solving physics and mathematics applied problems Provable capability to quickly assess problems in novel areas and to follow a structured approach to their solution Software development experience preferably in FORTRAN, but also C and other core languages on a UNIX operating systems Desirable skills are Knowledge of space flight dynamics, orbit andor attitude determination and control Experience with Mathematica and Matlab Some experience in scripting with Unix tools shells, sed, awk, python, perl Some experience with flight dynamics operations. These include orbit determination, attitude determination, mission planning, manoeuvre optimisation, command generation, test and validation of operational products Experience in algorithm and mathematical software development andor maintenance Familiarity with the flight dynamics software in use at ESOC Familiarity with mission analysis approach including software tools at ESOC Familiarity with the ESOCs ORATOS support layer software Candidates will be working in a multinational environment. The working language is English spoken and written fluency is required. Oncall support or shift work may occasionally be required for critical operations, such as launches or emergency operations.
