OAK Founders Buy Back Their Business From American Apparel in Midst of Bankruptcy

The founders of OAK , a fashion label and chain of boutiques in Brooklyn, have bought back the business from American Apparel after the latter declared bankruptcy, as Bloomberg reports. Founded by Louis Terline and Jeff Madalena in 2005, OAK was bought by American Apparel in early 2013 after the duo met Dov Charney at a party in Las Vegas and struck up a relationship.

A US bankruptcy court judge approved American Apparel's plan to reorganize and repay its creditors yesterday, the Los Angeles Times reports, rejecting ousted AA founder Dov Charney's attempts to derail the restructuring plan with a $300 million takeover bid. The decision renders Charney's large ownership stake in AA worthless.

Judge to rule Monday on American Apparel bankruptcy exit plan

Jan 21 A U.S. judge will rule on Monday on a plan to bring teen retailer American Apparel out of bankruptcy under the control of hedge funds or give former chief executive Dov Charney a chance to finance a competing plan. American Apparel Inc filed for bankruptcy in October and last month Charney and two investment funds presented a competing takeover plan that was rejected by the company's board.
