Over 350 EO satellites to be launched over next decade

(Telecompaper) A total of 353 earth observation (EO) satellites are expected to be launched over the next decade compared to 162 over 2004-2013, according to a report from Euroconsult. The deployment will result in USD 36 billion in manufacturing revenues over the period, an 85 percent increase over the previous decade. In fact, investment in EO and meteorology programmes reached a high of USD 8.7 billion in 2013, a 13 percent increase over 2012, and the eighth consecutive year of investment growth, with EO remaining a primary concern for government space expenditures. The report predicts that organizations from 41 countries will launch EO satellite capacity by 2023, compared to 33 over the previous decade.

Big US soft-drink firms pledge to cut calorie count and container sizes over the next decade

In an ambitious pledge, the US soft-drinks industry is committing to cut Americans' calorie intake from beverages by 20 per cent over the coming decade, with smaller cans and bottles a key part of the strategy. As part of the agreement reached by the American Beverage Association and the Alliance for a Healthier Generation, Coca-Cola, Pepsi and Dr Pepper Snapple Group will promote smaller portions as well as zero- and low-calorie offerings, and they will provide calorie counts on vending machines and soda fountains.
