We carry out an exciting range of worldclass space research and technology development, including designing, building and testing groundbased instruments for agencies including ESA, NASA and ESO. About The Role We now have a new opportunity for a talented Control and Instrumentation lead within our AIT Group, with responsibility for designing, developing, installing, managing and maintaining equipment which is used to monitor and control engineering systems and processes in our test facilities. The AIT Group operates leading instrument integration and calibration facilities, including thermal vacuum chambers, vacuum bake out chambers, a vibration test facility and inspection and metrology equipment. The group is responsible for the development and operation of a range of test facilities for the assembly and qualification of space hardware for both RAL Space and the wider user community. RAL space has recently attracted multimillion pound investment to develop a national satellite test facility NSTF which will allow a step change in the capability available in the UK. This will expand our remit from providing AIT facilities for our own instrument programs to include larger scale projects up to complete spacecraft level. The new facilities will include large scale vibration, acoustic, EMC and mechanical properties facilities along with an 8m diameter thermal vacuum chamber. The new facilities will allow AIT campaigns for the complete size range of spacecraft to be completed within the UK for the first time. Further Responsibilities will include researching, designing and developing new systems and devices, used to control and monitor RAL Space operational facilities, involving aspects of both software and hardware engineering ensuring all measurement chains are calibrated to the necessary standards, including the design, procurement and use of suitable equipment and tools ensuring all inhouse or complex systems conforms to the relevant European Norms and directives overseeing the design, development, test and configuration of all facility control and acquisition system hardware overseeing the design, development and test of data storage, formatting and reporting systems line management of staff management of product rollouts, training and maintenance activities understanding and ensuring compliance with relevant health and safety regulations and quality standards writing computer software and test procedures. About You You will be educated to degree level in electronic engineering or similar, with accreditation to a professional institute e.g. IET or InstMC desirable. You will have significant DAQ experience from within the aerospace industry or an equivalent field, along with experience of developing solutions for data gathering and analysis, including database design and development. You will also demonstrate experience of delivery of control and acquisition systems from concepts, through design, development, test and implementation, as well as staff and project management experience. You will display the ability to translate project requirements into the design and then develop into HWSW, while knowledge of CE marking measurement uncertainty budgets and relevant European Directives are all desirable. You will demonstrate excellent communication, interpersonal and team working skills, as well as the ability to solve problems creatively. Orange to open 5G test sites in France and Romania in H2

(Telecompaper) Orange announced plans for new 5G access trials starting later this year in France and Romania. It also revealed that it will be working on the design of a 'smart' antenna for 4G/5G connectivity in partnership with Nokia and Kathrein, a Germany-based manufacturer of antennas for communications. Currently in prototype phase, the new device will be compact enough to be installed on existing mobile towers, said the operator.

Location ESTEC, Noordwijk, The Netherlands Description Head of the Test Facilities and Test Methods Section in the ESTEC Test Centre Division, Mechanical Department, Directorate of Technology, Engineering and Quality. Reporting to the Head of the ESTEC Test Centre Division, the Head of the Test Facilities and Test Methods Section is responsible for the management of the Section, its resources and activities. In addition, the Head of Section will be required to carry out and to contribute to operational activities within the technical domains of the Section. Duties Duties include ensuring a positive and motivating working environment for the Section managing the workforce of the Section with accountability for all resources and activities delegated to the Section maintaining and developing the expertise and technical competence of the Sections members to meet current and future strategic needs, taking due account of their motivation, aspirations and professional development with appropriate opportunity for laboratory work distributing and assigning the tasks of the Section to its members, monitoring and managing their performance and providing timely and regular feedback anticipating and resolving sensitive or difficult situations, liaising with HR as required negotiating, organising and coordinating the specialist support provided by the Section to ESA projects throughout all phases preparing resource requirements based on needs originating from both inside and outside the Section and resolving conflicting demands on the use of the resources available in the Section establishing and maintaining good working relationships and technical networks with users, project groups and other organisational bodies both inside and outside the Agency contributing to the continuous improvement of working procedures and to the reflection on the evolution of the Sections role and activities. The Section is responsible for the development of new environmental test facilities for space applications, for updating the existing ones, for monitoring and controlling the activities performed by the Test Centre contractor in charge of the maintenance and operation of the test facilities, and for maintaining the knowhow on facility technology and test methodology. The Section also has the delegated task to maintain the Test Centre Division Quality and Safety Management System QMS in accordance with higher level instances within the Agency and applicable external requirements i.e. EN9100, ISO9001, ECSSQST2007 and to ensure product assurance and safety of the Test Centre products and services. Within the terms of reference of the Section, the postholder will be responsible for Monitoring and coordinating all facility modification and facility procurement projects Implementing facility modificationsprocurements Implementing studies related to new test methods Evaluating, on an ongoing and permanent basis, the test facility failure risks and maintaining the corresponding risk management plan Regularly assessing existing test facility installations and operations with respect to safety, cost effectiveness and performance in order to identify and suggest opportunities for improvement Continuously reviewing test facility operations in respect of productivity, reliability and measurement quality Effectively implementing the ESTEC Test Centre quality and safety management system on a daytoday basis Participating to the definition of the investment plan.
