Job description For our customer, ESO in Munich, Germany, we are seeking an experienced Software Test Engineer to support the Software Engineering and Quality Group in the Science Operations Software Department SEQSCS The Software Engineering and Quality Group SEQ in the Department of Science Operations Software SCS provides the development teams with software engineering services including the provision of an environment and tools to define and support the software life cycle. The department is also in charge of integrating software modules, preparing releases and verifying and validating software products before delivery to customers. In addition, continuous regression testing is performed to ensure that existing functionality is still working when adding new features. Responsibilities Typical activities to be undertaken are Testing VLT data flow applications databasedriven Java web and desktop GUI applications, command line tools, distributed applications according to ESO SQA standards. It includes understanding and reviewing user requirements with customers, producing and automating test cases, plans and reports. Platforms used Windows, Linux and MacOS Analyzing test results and investigating the root causes in collaboration with the developers Maintaining the existing automated test suites Testing applications for the ALMA project according to ALMA standards. You will be based at ESOs facilities in Munich, Germany. Qualifications Competencies Applicants shall have an University degree in Computer Science, Physics, Electrical Engineering or equivalent. The ideal applicant is a software test engineer with sufficient experience typically more than 3 years in software testing, including requirements analysis and clarification, as well as testing web applications and GUIs. You will be able to support any manual testing as well as implementation of fully automated tests. Testers are also expected to write documentation on test tools and environment as well as test case descriptions and test reports. You must be familiar with software development and test methodologies and standard software engineering practices and have an excellent knowledge of scripting languages UNIX shell, Python, Groovy and software build tools. Essential skills are Very good knowledge of testing of Java Desktop GUIs under Linux andor MacOS Very good knowledge of testing of dynamic web applications, including Javascriptcentric single page applications Significant experience with relational databases and designing SQL queries Basic experience in testing tools like Selenium andor QFTest Good knowledge of test automation Good knowledge scripting languages, preferably Groovy andor Python Exposure to configuration management tools, preferably SVN Very good oral and written communication skills Flexibility Customer orientation and a strong sense for quality development.
