Why did methane stop increasing, then start again?
2016-03-11 12:50:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Ars Technica: The rise of atmospheric carbon dioxide has been unrelenting over the past century. But that isnt the only greenhouse gas humans are adding to the atmosphere, and other have different stories to tell. Methane levels, for example, actually flattened out in the late 1990s, holding pretty steady until continuing an upward climb in 2006. Why, you ask? Well, you arent the only one. Methane is a little harder to get a handle on than CO2, partly because human emissions from things like livestock, rice...

Double trouble: Increasing tea & sugar deficits
2016-03-08 07:15:00| Sugar Industry News
Both tea and sugar have long become a part and parcel of our culture: they are intrinsic to our daily consumption, and their cultivation internationalised our commerce under British rule that helped the colony become the crown jewel of the British Empire. Since independence, we have increasingly produced far more consumers than all the tea or sugar harvested, generating a growing deficit. Started by the East India Company, tea production began along the Karnaphuli River from 1843, eventually shifting fulcrum to Sylhet 14 years later; while sugar was multinationalized and combined with tea by England in the 17th Century.

China's carbon emissions still increasing: China envoy
2016-03-07 08:28:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Reuters: China's carbon emissions did not peak in 2014 and are still increasing, China's senior climate change envoy, Xie Zhenhua, said at a press briefing in Beijing on Monday. Xie said the government's pledge that emissions would peak "around 2030" is based on national conditions and has a direct relationship with the country's stage of economic development. A study published on Monday said China's emissions, the world's highest, may have peaked in 2014.
