Job description For our customer, ESA, we are seeking an experienced EGNOS Deployment Engineer to support EGNOS stations Control Center systems deployment activities. You will be supporting the EGNOS Project Office with the GNSS Evolution Programme in the Navigation directorate NAV. The European Geostationary Navigation Overlay Service EGNOS is the panEuropean satellite navigation system. It augments the US GPS satellite navigation system and makes it suitable for safety critical applications such as flying aircraft or navigating ships through narrow channels. Responsibilities The primary area of activity will be EGNOS systems deployment, including supervision of deployment activities for EGNOS V3 Range Integrity Monitoring Stations RIMS sites, Navigation Land Earth Station NLES sites, EGNOS Master Control Centre MCC site, Operations Coordination Center OCC site and EGNOS V242 several new RIMS sites integration plus existing RIMS sites upgrades and other EGNOS site upgrades. Your tasks will cover all phases of the deployment, from site inspection and evaluation to final acceptance of the installation, as per applicable deployment processes defined for the EGNOS V2 and V3 programmes. You will be integrated in EGNOS Project Office site in Toulouse, France, with regular coordination with other ESAESOC, Darmstadt, Germany. You will perform part of the work at the deployment locations and part at external sites as requested by the EGNOS project. This implies frequent travel around the world, also including remote sites. This is a fulltime position as a Terma employee for placement in Toulouse, France, starting on 1st September 2017. Qualifications Competencies Applicants shall have a university degree or equivalent in an engineering or scientific discipline, or other suitable qualification. Required skills are Very good knowledge of RF environment and its impact on GNSS reference station performance and demonstrated experience with RF survey equipment and in RIMSNLES RF environment characterization andor monitoring Very good knowledge of GNSS signal processing, GNSS signal vulnerabilities Demonstrated minimum of 5 years of practical experience in hosting GNSSGPS reference or uplink stations Relevant experience or a good knowledge of EGNOS Control and Operations centres organization and hosted EGNOS equipment, in particular of EGNOS Control Facility CCF, EGNOS CentralProcessing Facilities CPF and EGNOS support facilities SF Relevant experience or a good understanding of EGNOS Assembly, Integration and Verification AIV activities, in particular of EGNOS on site testing Very good communication and negotiation skills Good teamworking spirit Fluency in English, both in speech and writing Willingness to take operational responsibility and leadership in multi discipline teams Coordinate and interact with other service providers in operations and other fields Ability to work independently. You should be prepared to travel frequently to remote sites. You shall be able to fulfil the assigned tasks with a minimum of supervision, have a systematic approach to work, be able to plan your work and cope with tight schedules and multiple tasks. You shall have the capability to write accurate and consistent technical documentation. You shall be willing to work in a team of engineers and in cooperation with industry and partner agencies. This is an opportunity for an experienced engineer to work in the domain of EGNOS V2V3 deployment activities coordination. This includes supervision of site activities for V3 RIMS sites, NLES sites, MCC sites, OCC site and for V242 several new RIMS sites integration plus existing RIMS sites upgrades and other EGNOS site upgrades justified by EGNOS equipment HW obsolescence resolution, in order to maintain EGNOS infrastructure and improve the EGNOS service coverage at the current footprint boundary. It covers all phases of the deployment, from site inspection and evaluation to final acceptance of the installation, as per applicable deployment process defined in V2 and V3 programs. The position is based in Toulouse with a start foreseen in September 2017. ResponsibilitiesDuties Communicate with EGNOS sites to control remotely performance of GNSS receivers for EGNOS use. Coordinate installation of new receivers and upgrade of already existing receivers at different ground sites. Regular visits at the ground sites to inspect receivers performance and conduct acceptance tests in case of new installations andor upgrades of receivers and equipment. Supervision of sites remotely and, upon need, directly onsite. RealTime monitoring and processing of incoming GNSS data files for EGNOS. Monitoring of the data lines for file retrieval. Sound familiarity with the running of GNSS receivers in terms of installation and maintenance, remote control and operation, nearrealtime andor realtime data files retrieval, storage and archiving. Readiness to travel frequently.
