Early this year, AT&T said it was working toward offering an in-flight WiFi competitor to Itasca, Illinois-based Gogo and other providers, but now the telecommunications giant has dropped those plans. Re/code reported that, despite market research indicating many customers are dissatisfied with current in-flight WiFi offerings, the company has decided to sink resources elsewhere , in particular expanding internationally , and perhaps in a bid for DirecTV .

Still resisting the urge to engage in price wars with Verizon, Cablevision Systems suffered some of its worst subscriber losses ever over the summer months but managed to boost its revenues and earnings nonetheless. Cablevision Systems Corp. reported consolidated net revenues of $1.63 billion in the third quarter, up 3.7% on a year-over-year basis and slightly higher than the Wall Street consensus forecast.

Chung Mong-Koo, the chairman of Hyundai Motor Group, this year failed to make a list of the world's 200 richest people after spending heavily on a 80,000-square-metre site in Gangnam, Seoul, where he plans to build a global business control tower. According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, the head of South Korea's largest automaker, who has in the past ranked between 150th and 200th place, had dropped out of the list altogether.
