Broadcom reports Q1 in line with guidance, sees sharp demand uncertainty ahead

(Telecompaper) Broadcom said results for its fiscal first quarter to 2 February were in line with expectations, with steady growth from its networking storage and broadband businesses, CEO Hock Tan said. Nevertheless, even though the semiconductor market is doing better and that the covid-19 outbreak did not have a material impact on the company's figures in Q1, visibility is still lacking looking forward, with demand uncertainty getting more intense. As a result, Tan said the company is withdrawing its previous forecast for the year, and that it will not present any annual guidance until visibility returns to pre covid-19 levels.

Facebook grows profit 7% in Q4 after sharp rise in operating costs, taxes

(Telecompaper) Facebook reported a stronger increase in costs than revenue in the fourth quarter, leading to a slowdown in its profit growth. Revenues were up 25 percent to USD 21.1 billion, while operating costs jumped 34 percent to USD 12.2 billion. Along with a sharp increase in taxes, net profit rose just 7 percent, to USD 7.3 billion or USD 2.56 per share.

Japan Display holds talks with Apple, Sharp over sale of whole of Hakusan factory - report

(Telecompaper) Japan Display (JDI) is in talks with Apple and Sharp to sell its main Hakusan factory in Ishikawa Prefecture, the Nikkei Asian Review reported, citing several sources. Poor sales mean the manufacturing plant has not produced any displays since July, it said. The sources said that JDI is negotiating with Apple to sell the factory for JPY 80-90 billion.
