(Telecompaper) Huawei announced at CES its new Mate 8 smartphone, a "high-productivity" device aimed at business users. The Mate 8 is the first smartphone to run the company's Kirin 950 chipset, which offers twice the CPU power and up to 70 percent more power efficiency than its predecessor, the Kirin 925. The 6-inch phone balances energy efficiency with high-end performance through four A72 2.3 GHz processors and four A53 1.8 GHz processors, Huawei said. The Mate 8 also comes with a 4,000mAh high-density battery. Running on Huawei's EMUI 4.0, based on Android 6.0, the Huawei Mate 8 comes with new features such as automatic defragmentation to optimize system performance, a split-screen mode for multitasking between apps and 'super hands-free' mode, as well as am enhanced fingerprint sensor, real-time encryption of stored data and a microSD card lock. The Huawei Mate 8 will be initially available in 30 countries, including Spain, Germany, France, United Arab Emirates, Mexico and Australia. The device will cost EUR 599 for 3GB and 32GB memory and EUR 699 for 4GB and 64GB. It is available in four colours.
