China: Nation's wind farms heading offshore

2013-01-29 09:59:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed

China Daily: China's wind farms are moving offshore, with the largest project going into commercial use in coastal Jiangsu province. The 150-megawatt farm opened off Rudong county in November and will supply up to 190,000 residents with renewable energy a year, according to the China Longyuan Power Group, which runs the farm. "It marks the country's entry into the new era of developing large, offshore wind-energy projects," said Zhou Qinsheng, a climate and energy expert with Greenpeace. A Greenpeace...

Europe installed over one offshore wind turbine a day in 2012

2013-01-28 11:09:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed

BusinessGreen: Europe's offshore wind industry delivered record levels of installations last year, according to new figures that show that on average every working day during 2012 saw an offshore turbine erected. Across the continent, 293 giant new turbines were installed, bringing the total of grid-connected offshore turbines in Europe to 1,662 operating across 55 wind farms. The latest round of installations resulted in 1.16GW of new capacity being added during 2012, an increase of 33 per cent on 2011 installations...

Europe's offshore wind installations fall behind target

2013-01-27 19:20:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed

Reuters: The number of wind turbines built in European waters is lagging behind targets by nearly 1,000 megawatts (MW), the equivalent of around 330 turbines, an industry report showed on Sunday. A total of 4,994 MW of offshore wind capacity is currently producing electricity in Europe's waters, but European Union (EU) countries had targeted an installation of 5,829 MW by the end of 2012, data published by the European Wind Energy Association (EWEA) showed. The EU wants to generate 20 percent of its...
