Warning labels thwarted at Legislature

Sacramento >> An effort to require warning labels on sugary drinks died at the state Legislature on Wednesday, after four lawmakers who oversee health policy in California declined to vote on the bill. Strongly opposed by the beverage industry, the bill was proposed by Sen. Bill Monning, D-Carmel, as a way to deter consumers from drinks that health experts say contribute to diabetes, obesity and other diseases.
