Sky announces new Sky Q home entertainment system

(Telecompaper) Sky has announced the Sky Q next-generation home entertainment system. Sky Q will be available in the UK and Ireland in early 2016, with pricing to be announced closer to launch. The range of advanced Sky Q products will connect wirelessly to create a seamless TV viewing experience. Customers will be able to watch shows from their box, whether live or recorded or on demand, anywhere around the home on another TV or tablet; pause viewing on one TV screen and pick up where they left off in another room; take their favourite shows with them by saving recordings onto a tablet to watch anywhere; and to watch different programmes on up to five screens simultaneously while also recording four other channels. They will also be able to enhance their Sky Broadband by turning all their Sky Q boxes into Wi-Fi hotspots, and scroll and swipe the new touchpad remote to choose what to watch on the new TV guide. Sky Q will be Ultra HD ready in advance of the launch of a Ultra High Definition service later in 2016. The Sky Q range will include the Sky Q Silver and Sky Q boxes for the main TV set, with up to 12 tuners and up to 2 TV storage; Sky Q Mini, a new plug and play box giving wireless access to Sky Q in other rooms in the home; Sky Q Hub, with integrated powerline networking technology; and the Sky Q app for tablets.
