Montvale-based A&P's plan to spend up to $3.9 million on retention bonuses for non-union managers and mid-level executives, to be heard by the bankruptcy court Friday, is a typical bankruptcy request, legal experts said. What isn't typical, they said, is the multi-million-dollar trust fund the company set up three and a half months before filing for bankruptcy to provide compensation for its top executives.

NRG Energy files to close Tonawanda Huntley Plant; Dunkirk facility in question

NRG Energy will file an application with the New York Public Service Commission to close the Huntley Tonawanda coal facility by March of 2016. Meanwhile, the future of the company's Dunkirk looks bleak as they could start laying off staff there on Jan. 1. According to NRG spokesman David Gaier , sustained low natural gas prices, low energy prices and low capacity prices are behind the plans to close the Huntley site.
