(Telecompaper) The new business will be based on Alibaba's e-commerce business AliExpress in the country and the Mail.ru Group platform and operate under the name AliExpress Russia. The joint venture's board will include representatives of Megafon, Mail.ru group, Alibaba Group and RFPI. Two CEOs will manage the company, one nominated by Alibaba Group and the other by Mail.ru Group.

Megafon CEO Soldatenkov resigns, Vermishian to take over

(Telecompaper) Rusian mobile operator Megafon announced that CEO Sergey Soldatenkov has decided to leave the company before the expiry of his contract in 2019. The management board of Megafon will recommend to shareholders that executive director Gevork Vermishian replace Soldatenkov as CEO. A general shareholders meeting will be held on 13 November to vote on the proposal.

Alibaba partners Mail.ru, Megafon to expand Russian business

(Telecompaper) Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba Group has agreed to found a joint venture with the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), Russian mobile operator Megafon and internet company Mail.ru Group. The deal agreed at Russia's Eastern Economic Forum will see Alibaba own 48 percent of the new company AliExpress Russia, while the three Russian entities will have a combined 52 percent stake in the e-commerce platform after contributing cash, shares and other assets.

Last week in telecoms: Vodafone and Orange drag on index, biggest losses at Iliad and MegaFon

(Telecompaper) Two stocks stood out last week for being hit very hard: Iliad (-13%) and MegaFon (-15%). Iliad's results worried investors, as its internationalisation to Italy and Ireland appears to be on track. MegaFon also dropped on Q4 results. The best performing stocks were mobile operator Turkcell (+4.2%), after results and an upwards revision of its guidance, satellite operator SES (+4.7%) and data centre operator Equinix (+6.3%). Microcaps QSC (+4.4%) and CityFibre (+4.5%) also had a strong week.
