European Parliament allows Wi-Fi connected car standard to move forward

(Telecompaper) The European Parliament has dismissed objections from its transport committee over the European Commission's proposal for a connected car standard. This effectively opens up the way to the Wi-Fi based 802.11p standard for short-range communications to be endorsed by the EU for vehicle communications, as opposed to the Cellular-V2X (C-V2X) technology based on LTE and 5G and supported by the mobile industry.

European Parliament approves online copyright reform

(Telecompaper) The European Parliament has approved the controversial reform of copyright rules for online content. The legislation increases the liability for internet platforms accepting content uploaded by users as well as provides for increased remuneration for publishers from online aggregators. The text still needs formal approval from the Council of EU states before becoming law, after which EU members will have two years to implement the changes in national law.

(Telecompaper) The European Parliament has passed a resolution calling for EU action on potential security threats from China's growing technological presence in the EU. In particular, the MEPs want the European Commission and EU states to develop guidance on how to tackle any cyber threats and vulnerabilities when procuring 5G equipment, including having network security agency Enisa develop a system of equipment certification.
